On a gloriously sunny day, an American actress became the first Duchess of Sussex and the wife of a Prince of England.

Rachel Meghan Markle and Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in front of 600 guests, including George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey and Elton John.

It was a perfect mixture of the centuries of tradition that guides the British monarchy and the new world of a mixed-race Hollywood actress.

Meghan looked stunning in an exquisite dress by Givenchy’s creative director Clare Waight Keller.

As old-fashioned as the British royal family can be, there was still a relaxed feeling to this wedding. The new couple definitely put their own personal style on the event.

At first the bride walked herself part of the way up the aisle as her father couldn’t attend the ceremony, then she met up with her now father-in-law, Prince Charles, who escorted her the rest of the way.

The groom and his best man, his brother Prince William, waited as Meghan arrived. The prince’s expression changed from anxiety to joy as she walked up the aisle.

After hymns and songs including “Stand by Me” sung by a Gospel Choir, they said their vowes and exchanged rings.

Then the couple left the church, shared their first kiss before the public, and managed to get into the open horse-drawn carriage flawlessly as crowds cheered and Prince George and Princess Charlotte waved from the steps.

Guests respected the invitation’s dress code. The women wore day dresses with a variety of elaborate hats. The men, for the most part, followed tradition and arrived in morning coats, although some men, such as George Clooney, chose suits.

Millions of people watched worldwide, while an estimated 100,000 people waited on the streets of Windsor, waving Union Jack flags and cheering. Windsor is roughly 20 miles west of London and near Eton, where Princes Harry and Will went to school.

The couple, who announced their engagement on the 27th November 2017, will now be called the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — a happy ending only for Hollywood.
