5 British Summertime Traditions – English Language Reading Comprehension

As you know, the weather in the UK is not as good as in Italy. We usually don’t have nice sunny weather for even 2 weeks, never mind a whole summer! But regardless of that, summer still exists in the UK and we have some time-honoured traditions that we like to keep to during the warmer months. Here are 5 of the best ones…

Festivals

Britain is famous for its summer festival season. It’s a rite of passage for every teenager to attend their first festival with their friends. The most famous are Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The classic British music festival is a wonderful event. Picture thousands of small tents crammed together in fields stretching for miles and then huge stages where the most famous bands in the world come to play. It usually rains too at some point during the weekend which makes the experience uniquely British. Lots of fun but probably not a lot of sun!

Barbeques

As soon as a ray of sun shines through the clouds in the UK, people are on the phone to their friends inviting them for a good old barbeque! It doesn’t matter what kind of barbeque you have; from a top of the range £1000 grilling machine to a disposable one from the supermarket, everyone loves getting together to grill some meat, have a few drinks, playing some music and having a good time.

Street Parties

This is a funny one because I have never attended one, but apparently they are a tradition! Everyone can imagine the typical British summer scene with a huge long table in the street, families from all across the neighbourhood joining in to eat and drink together, and bunting with UK flags strung up across the street lights. Maybe it was more common in the past, but it is still a charming image.

A trip to the seaside

The UK is an island and we have a lot of coastline to enjoy. Before cheap package holidays and international travel became common, people used to flock to Britain’s many seaside towns for holidays. The most famous of these was Blackpool, with its amazing pleasure beach, complete with rollercoasters and arcades. Aside from that, Britain has many beautiful places to visit: from the charming coasts of North Wales to the simply stunning Cornish peninsula. The UK seaside is a great place to spend time, even if the weather isn’t good, and you can enjoy great ice cream, fish and chips and breath-taking views from these spots.

Complaining about the weather

Now this is a true British summer tradition! All year round people in the UK love to talk about the weather. It’s a classic conversation starter and a guaranteed topic of interest for any British person. After all, our climate is pretty strange. Anyway, as soon as summer comes around, and there is no sun to be seen, us Brits start complaining! Of course, it’s not fair that we only have a few days of sun while pretty much the rest of the world gets lots of sun. But then… when the sun finally arrives, we still can’t stop complaining!!! “It’s a bit too hot now isn’t it?” we tell each other from the minute the good weather arrives. Classic UK, classic summer tradition.

Come migliorare il tuo inglese durante l’estate

Le lunghe vacanze estive sono quasi arrivate e noi di Scrambled Eggs Milano non potevamo lasciarvi senza alcuni consigli su come mantenere ben allenato il vostro inglese durante i mesi estivi. Sia che stiate pensando di frequentare un corso per incontrare studenti di inglese come voi nella nostra scuola situata nel centro della città di Milano, sia che stiate cercando modi per praticare il vostro inglese sulla spiaggia o mentre viaggiate, abbiamo molte idee fantastiche per voi!

Opportunità faccia a faccia

Mentre molte altre scuole di lingue chiudono per il mese di luglio e agosto, qui a Scrambled Eggs sappiamo quanto sia importante rimanere in contatto con la lingua tutto l’anno. Ecco perché stiamo organizzando numerosi corsi a pacchetti scontati da consumare tra luglio e inizio agosto.

Corsi estivi intensivi

Il nostro corso intensivo estivo inglese si svolge secondo le tue disponibilità, dal lunedì al sabato. Puoi scegliere se fare un’ora o addirittura due con noi per ogni lezione. Abbiamo applicato una promozione per te:
un pacchetto di 10 lezioni scontate da 430€ a 350€.

Ovviamente, se senti che hai bisogno di più ore – magari per preparare un esame o in vista di un colloquio di lavoro – puoi ovviamente contare su di noi e sulla nostra disponibilità: potresti fare lezione anche tutti i giorni se lo desideri!

Tutti i nostri corsi sono disponibili per i livelli da A1 (elementare) a C2 (massima competenza). Le lezioni si concentrano sulla comunicazione efficace in lingua inglese e se lavori sodo, potresti passare da un livello all’altro anche in un mese! Con le lezioni al mattino, al pomeriggio o alla sera, non ci sono scuse per non farlo!

E se hai un amico o un familiare, potete anche frequentare il corso insieme e dividerne il costo! (con una piccola sovrattassa in più di 3€ all’ora).

Corsi di preparazione agli esami

Se un corso di inglese generale non è una sfida sufficiente per te, iscriviti a uno dei nostri corsi di preparazione agli esami e stabilisci un nuovo obiettivo: ottenere il tuo certificato ufficiale di livello.

Stiamo organizzando corsi intensivi per la preparazione di Cambridge, IELTS e SAT durante l’estate per studenti di livello B2 e superiore. I corsi sono progettati per insegnarti le competenze necessarie per svolgere gli esami in maniera corretta ed efficace.

Potrai inoltre sostenere un esame simulato per avere un’idea della realtà degli esami vera e propria, e valutare quanto sei pronto a sostenere l’esame ufficiale.

Corso di inglese online

Nel periodo del lockdown per il Covid-19 abbiamo sperimentato nuovi tipi di modalità di insegnamento dell’inglese, ed ecco che la tecnologia ci è corsa in aiuto! Tramite la piattaforma Zoom, abbiamo applicato un nuovo format alle nostre lezioni, per molti addirittura migliore e più comodo. Si tratta delle lezioni online. Da oggi – con Scrambled Eggs – è possibile seguire un intero corso di lingua inglese completamente da casa, oppure quando si è in trasferta per lavoro, o addirittura in vacanza sotto l’ombrellone! E anche per loro, ovviamente, vale la super-promozione di luglio per un corso intensivo di 10 ore a 350€.

Siamo felici di annunciarvi che abbiamo da poco sperimentato un nuovo format!
Il “Learn English with the News” è di gran lunga il modo migliore per apprendere l’inglese rimanendo aggiornati su tutto quello che accade nel mondo. Ritroverai notizie importanti di cui discutono tutte le più importanti testate giornalistiche mondiali, oppure ti metteremo a conoscenza di piccole chicche che magari non sapevi, o particolari situazioni poco conosciute in giro per il mondo, come la vicenda di una particolare gattara nel cuore della Russia.

La struttura dei “Learn English with the News” è sempre la stessa: ti offriremo un video, con il quale affinare le tue abilità uditive; e poi ti metteremo a disposizione degli esercizi di comprensione del testo e altri con i quali migliorare in maniera notevole il tuo vocabolario legato alla lingua inglese.

C’è qualcosa per tutti su YouTube! Troveremo sempre qualcosa che ci interessa in quella marmaglia di contenuti video! Perché dunque non approfittarne per cercare video che parlino di cose che ti piacciono, ma in inglese?
Se vuoi sperimentare un nuovo hobby quest’estate, puoi trovare video in inglese ad esempio per lezioni di decorazione per torte, upcycling o chitarra per principianti.

In più, YouTube ha da poco attivato la funzione ‘sottotitoli in inglese’, grazie alla quale puoi veramente immergerti nella lingua ed allenarti a capire il labiale dei madrelingua inglesi mentre parlano: un metodo infallibile per fare amicizia, ancora di più, con l’inglese.

Con gli smartphones sempre più ingombranti nelle nostre vite, un metodo far fruttare alla perfezione il tempo passato al cellulare è farlo attraverso delle applicazioni per imparare la lingua inglese. Ce ne sono tantissime, e in questo blog abbiamo selezionato le migliori 5 su piazza; dacci un’occhiata!

Un buon libro per la spiaggia

L’estate è un ottimo momento per godersi un buon libro, soprattutto se stai andando in spiaggia! Se pensi che leggere un romanzo in inglese possa essere un po’ una sfida nella quale vuoi cimentarti, ti consiglio di dare un’occhiata ai nostri post:
